DIY Balustrade Kits

Stainless Steel Wire DIY Balustrade Kits

There are many combinations of fittings (click here to view our fittings image gallery) that can be used in stainless wire balustrading. We have combined the most common fittings into our balustrade DIY Kits. Each kit contains all the fittings required to complete one strand of wire.

Each DIY kit contains fittings for the two end posts. These are usually Saddles (for steel or timber posts) or Lag Screws (for timber posts, brick or concrete walls (use with raw plugs). The kit also contains the fittings for the ends of the wire, one of which will be a
Rigging Screw or Turnbuckle to tension the wire.

One Kit can span up to 10 meters. You will usually run the wire through the
middle of any centre post only terminating on a corner or end post. If the span between ends is greater than 10 meters we would strongly recommend you split the run in half and use 2 lots of kits.

Hand Swaged Wire Balustrading Kits

Hand swaged kits use a Thimble and Ferrule
at each end of the wire to make a loop
that the fittings are then connected to. When using Hand Swaged kits you will need to put your wires together onsite after the wire has been passed through any centre post. A Hand Swaging tool will be requied if using this type of kit.

Pre-Swaged DIY Balustrade Kits

Pre-Swaged kits come ready made to length (supplied by you at time of purchasing) with fittings Hydraulically Pressed (swaged) to the ends of the wire. Examples of the fittings that are hydraulically swaged are Fork Terminals
and Jaw/Swage Rigging Screws
.
These are the easiest kits to use and no special tools are required. When puchasing this type of kit we will require the inside to inside post measurements of your two end posts. You can still pass the wire through any centre post by drilling an 8mm hole.

Each wire has +- 30mm from the measurement provided. If your posts are not 100% vertical you should supply the average length for us to make the wires to.

Wire Required

All kits are suited to 3.2mm wire. Hand Swaged kits should use 7x7 3.2mm wire and Pre-Swaged Kits should use 1x19 3.2mm wire. You should note that Hand Swaged Kits can NOT be used with 1x19 wire.

How many wires should you use?
